When to speed up on a bend
Dazzled by oncoming headlights
Look to the left and follow the edge of the road; stop if the light is blinding.
Your motorcycle skids in the rain
Steer in the direction of the skid, and straighten up when the tyres grip again.
For sharp bends or corners at low speed: lean your body away from the motorcycle's angle.
Approaching the top of a slope
Keep left and proceed carefully.
Position on a right-hand bend
Keep close to the left to see further ahead. On a left-hand bend, keep near the centre line.
Learner riders on the expressway
Riding posture for a gradual bend
'Lean with': lean at the same angle as the motorcycle.
Breaking down on the expressway
Move onto the shoulder, hazard lights on, a breakdown sign 20 m behind, and wait behind the guardrail with your pillion.
Build up speed before the slope. If you lose speed, change down quickly and accelerate.
Build up speed in the acceleration lane to match the traffic, then merge.
After riding through a flood
Brake on and off to dry the brakes before speeding up.
Slow down, use a lower gear and hold the handlebar firmly.
Keep a steady speed, without braking or using the clutch. Slow down and change gear before the bend.
